New York-born jazz and afrobeats performer UDEiGWE just unveiled the official music video for his most recent track, “Do.” This upbeat song has brassy undertones and features the well-known musician SKALES, who gives the lively arrangement a legendary feel.
UDEiGWE’s smooth vocals establish the mood of the song, which is later enhanced by SKALES’s quick-witted rap verse. This leads to a beautiful duet, which UDEiGWE ends with a scatting flourish.
In the accompanying music video, the artist argues that not everyone has the potential to achieve what many desire to, offering a cinematic commentary on a culture that is driven by competition. Bright hues and imaginative costumes express the creativity and artistic freedom of Africa, while the choreography demonstrates the development of Nigerian dance from the traditional body twists of Kalakuta queens to more modern legwork routines.
In addition to his musical pursuits, UDEiGWE—born Lawrence Udeigwe—has experience in mathematics. He currently teaches mathematics as an Associate Professor at Manhattan College in New York and is associated with the esteemed Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
