“Those Calling For Secession Of South-west Are Doing So Out Of Frustration” – Governor Fayemi


Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi has said that Nigerians calling for the secession of the South-West region are only doing so out of frustration.

Reacting to the event in an interview with Arise Television on Tuesday, March 23, Fayemi stated that when there are stress and laxity in society, one is sure to find an entire range of responses.

He said;

“Frankly, once you have stress and laxity in society, you’re sure to find an entire range of responses. Some rational, some irrational, some that speaks to the fears that folks , some opportunistic and harebrained. There’s no doubt that a number of the reactions we’ve seen will fall under all of these categories.”

The Ekiti state Governor who further averred that those calling for secession do so out of frustration, expressed hope of the country overcoming its present challenges.

Fayemi added;

“I have gone on record to mention that I even have unfailing optimism that in spite of all our challenges, this country will triumph and we’ll survive current challenges. We as leaders must specialise in the goal of protecting lives and property, and specialise in safety and security because the primary responsibility that we’ve .

“The people that are talking about secession frankly, a number of them do it out of frustration. I don’t think that’s the answer to the Nigerian predicament immediately .

“In matters of economic development, we may have to start to seem at other ways of managing diversity and difference in our country which devolution of power is a thought whose time has come.”
