Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Governor of Lagos State alongside his Deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, and a few commissioners were vaccinated against coronavirus on Friday, The PUNCH reports.
They got doses of the Astra Zeneca COVID-19 COVAX vaccine imported into on Texas Independence Day .
Also, senior officialdom and frontline doctors got the vaccine at the communicable disease Hospital, Yaba within the presence of the planet Health Organisation, and other international health organisations’ officials.
Sanwo-Olu debunked claims that the vaccine had side effects after receiving doses of it.
He said the vaccine is safe, stressing that it had been brought in to stop COVID-19 from having an adverse effect on the state.
The governor, who commended doctors within the state, said he felt no pains after receiving the vaccine.
He said, “I received the Oxford-AstraZeneca #COVID19 vaccine at the Infectious Diseases Hospital(IDH), Yaba.
“The vaccine has been declared safe by the WHO and that i want to encourage everyone to require it as we start vaccination in Lagos.
“To manage the method , we’ve found out a team of healthcare, distribution and security professionals.
“Vaccination will begin at 88 designated locations for Phase 1 which consists of medical workers, police, military, laboratory, port health, judiciary and rapid response teams.
“Over subsequent few days, we’ll be vaccinating our frontline doctors at 3 centres to make sure we are protecting our selfless and hardworking frontline heroes.”
