Many houses are currently ablaze across Gajiganna town in the Magumeri Government Area of Borno State.
The fire, which started at 2pm amid scorching heat, was said to possess been aided by strong dry winds.
A native of Gajiganna, Baa Kaka Ibrahim, who spoke by telephone, said the hearth “started from the roof of 1 house shortly after the arrival of a person there. and since the neighboring houses were made up of straw and grasses including strong winds, fires spread to other parts of the town quickly after overpowering residents who used water and sand to quench them.”
He said dozens of homes , shops and valuables were razed within the town located in northern parts of the state, said to be worst-hit by insurgency.
The areas suffering from the inferno are Gamboiri, Kangiri, Umara Misulali, Baare, Granbori, Tunjiram and Swindi.
A similar fire incident occurred at a short lived settlement for people displaced by insurgency in Maiduguri, the capital , last month.
